
Women Defeat Oakland for 20th Win of Season

The Wright State women's basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game and, behind five in double figures, went on to its 20th win of the season, a 92-66 decision over Oakland Saturday afternoon at WSU's Nutter Center.
Neither team scored until Tayler Stanton made a layup with 17:41 to play in the first half, a layup that started the Raiders on a 10-0 run before the Golden Grizzlies finally got on the scoreboard with a Peyton Apsey jumper at the 13:47 mark.
WSU gradually built on the lead the rest of the period, going up as much as 23 before taking a 51-31 margin into halftime.
Wright State hit 19 of 37 shots in the opening 20 minutes, including four of 10 from three-point range, and made nine of 10 free throws while Oakland shot 36 percent from the field, but was just three of 14 from behind the arc.
The Golden Grizzlies opened the second half with a 7-1 run, but would get no closer as the Raiders responded with seven straight points, four by Tay'ler Mingo.
WSU shot 44 percent for the game overall, hit eight of 23 threes and connected on 22 of 28 free throws, while Oakland shot 33 percent, hit five of 24 threes and made 13 of 20 at the stripe. The Raiders led 38-22 in points in the paint, 15-7 in points off of turnovers and 19-12 in second-chance points.
Five Wright State players scored in double figures, led by 18 points from Richelle van der Keijl off the bench. The sophomore center also posted her first career double-double as she collected a season-high 12 reboounds.
Mingo added 17 points and seven assists, Courtney Boyd 16 points, Jump a career-high 16 off the bench and Stanton posted a double-double of 15 points and 14 boards.
Elena Popkey paced Oakland (11-15, 5-8 Horizon) with 15 points and six assists while Nola Anderson had 13 points.
Wright State (20-7, 9-4 Horizon), which reaches the 20-win plateau for the fourth time in five seasons under head coach Mike Bradbury, goes to Detroit on Thursday, February 26, for its final road game of the regular-season. Tip-off is at 7:00.
