
Women Roll to 92-55 Win on Education and Hoops Day

The Wright State women's basketball team shot 53 percent for the game, 57 percent in the first half, in rolling to a 92-55 win over Youngstown State on Education and Hoops Day Thursday afternoon at WSU's Nutter Center.
YSU rallied from an early 9-2 deficit to tie the game at 11 on a Jenna Hirsch three with 14:16 remaining in the first half, only to see the Raiders go in front for good on a Breanna Stucke three followed by a Tay'ler Mingo jumper.
Three Mingo steals resulting in layups for the senior guard extended the lead to 26-16 and a later 22-6 run, including six from Tayler Stanton, helped give Wright State a 48-27 halftime advantage.
WSU hit 20 of 35 shots in the opening 20 minutes, including four of five from three-point range, while Youngstown State was 10 of 27 for 37 percent overall and four of 14 from behind the arc.
The Raiders scored the first 13 points of the second half and led by at least 25 the rest of the way.
Wright State shot 53 percent for the game and was eight of 16 from three while the Penguins shot 33 percent and were six of 25 from three. WSU led 47-32 in rebounds and had the advantage in points in the paint (50-26), points off of turnovers (29-5), second-chance points (18-7) and fast-break points (12-2).
Mingo led all scorers with 23 points and added seven assists and seven steals while Courtney Boyd hit five of seven three-pointers in finishing with 19 points. Stanton posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds as did Stucke with 10 points and as many boards. Richelle van der Keijl had nine points and 10 rebounds off the bench while Symone Denham chipped in eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Heidi Schlegel paced Youngstown State (15-6, 4-4 Horizon) with 18 points while Hirsch had 11 off the bench.
Wright State (17-5, 6-2 Horizon) wraps up the brief two-game homestand on Saturday, hosting Valparaiso at 2:00.
