
Women Fall to Toledo in WNIT First Round

The Wright State women's basketball team could not get the offense going Friday night as the Raiders shot just 29 percent in dropping a 72-64 decision at Toledo in the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament.
The Raiders jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead by scoring seven straight points, only to see the Rockets regain the advantage with a 9-0 burst. The game was then tied five times before Toledo went in front to stay at 31-24 with 3:53 remaining in the first half with seven unanswered points.
UT pushed the margin to 11 in the final minute before an Abby Jump three trimmed the deficit to 41-33 at the break.
Toledo hits 16 of 33 shots in the opening 20 minutes, including six of 13 three-pointers, while WSU shot only 27 percent and was three of 13 from behind the arc.
The Rockets led by 12 early in the second half and were still up eight before a JJ Williams three-point play and a Richelle van der Keijl basket made it 53-50 with still 8:20 to play.
The Raiders drew to within three on two more occasions down the stretch, but could not get any closer as as Toledo hit four foul shots in the final minute to round out the scoring.
WSU shot 29 percent for the game overall and struggled from three as well, hitting just four of 24 attempts. The Rockets, meanwhile, shot 37 percent for the game and were nine of 31 from behind the arc.
Tay'ler Mingo led WSU with 18 points and dished out five assists while Courtney Boyd added 14 points and Tayler Stanton eight points and 15 rebounds.
Four players scored in double figures for Toledo (19-13) as Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott had 19 points, and Brenae Harris posted a triple-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Inma Zanoguera had 12 points and Janice Monakana 10 off the bench.
The loss ended the collegiate career of Raider seniors Boyd, Jump, Mingo, Stanton and Breanna Stucke, a quintet that combined for 4221 points, 2254 rebounds and 658 assists during their tenure at WSU while being a part of 104 wins over the past five years.
Wright State closes with a final record of 25-9 this season and a 51-18 mark over the last two years.
