
Seniors Lead Women Past Milwaukee 91-73

Behind a combined 75 points from its five seniors, the Wright State women's basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 91-73 decision over Milwaukee on Senior Day Saturday at WSU's Nutter Center.
Milwaukee led by four before WSU went on a 18-6 run, seven of those coming from Courtney Boyd, to go up 31-23 with six minutes remaining in the first half. A later Boyd three extended the margin to 37-28 before the Panthers closed the period with an 11-4 run to only trail 41-39 at the break.
The Raiders shot 47 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes compared to 44 percent for UWM.
The score was tied four times in the early stages of the second half before Wright State took the lead for good at 55-49 on baskets by Breanna Stucke and Tay'ler Mingo along with a pair of foul shots from Abby Jump.
An 11-0 burst, six by Jump, pushed the Raider advantage into double figures at 70-55 with 7:27 left and WSU maintained that double-digit lead the rest of the way, going up as much as 91-70 with just over a minute to play.
The Raiders hit 15 of 27 shots in the second half for 56 percent to end up at 51 percent for the game and also made 26 of 39 foul shots, 18 of 24 after halftime, while Milwaukee shot 34 percent in the second half and 39 percent overall. The Panthers were 11 of 20 at the foul line.
Wright State led 34-28 in points in the paint and 11-4 in second-chance points.
All five seniors scored in double figures, led by Mingo's 26 points along with six assists while Tayler Stanton posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jump chipped in 13 points off the bench while Boyd had 12 and Stucke 10. Richelle van der Keijl added nine points off the bench.
Ashley Green paced Milwaukee (9-19, 5-11 Horizon) with 16 points, while Sydney Howard had 12, Jaleesa Armstrong 11 points and eight assists off the bench and Steph Kostowicz had 10.
Wright State (23-7, 12-4 Horizon) will open Horizon League Tournament play on Wednesday, March 11, as the #2 seed Raiders host #7 seed Oakland in quarterfinal action at 7:00.
