Athletics Announces 2014-15 Award Winners

The 2014-15 award winners for each Wright State team and for the athletic department were announced on Thursday.

Baseball senior Mark Fowler was the recipient of the Don Mohr Male Athlete of the Year Award while women's basketball senior Tay'ler Mingo was awarded the Peg Wynkoop Female Athlete of the Year Award.  Baseball junior Jason DeFevers and swimming junior Samantha TenEyck were recipients of the Dr. Carl Benner Scholar-Athlete Awards while baseball coach Greg Lovelady received the Terry Hall Coach of the Year Award.

Fowler (West Chester, OH/Lakota) hit a team-best .342 with six home runs and 43 RBI as he was named Second Team All-Horizon League.  Fowler was the Horizon League Tournament MVP as he hit .389 in four games with two home runs and five runs scored and was also selected to the NCAA Champaign All-Regional All-Tournament Team as he hit .353 with five RBI in four games.

Mingo (Akron, OH/Regina) was the Horizon League Player of the Year and was named to the league's All-Defensive and All-Tournament Teams.  A finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award, given to the top point guard in the nation, she ranked sixth nationally in scoring (22.8), 12th in steals per game (3.2) and 21st in assists per game (5.8).  Mingo helped lead the Raiders to a 25-9 record and to its first-ever appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

DeFevers (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) appeared in 40 games with 32 starts for the baseball team this season, hitting .245 with 12 RBI and 13 runs scored.  He had four multi-hit games on the year, with two of those coming against eventual NCAA Super Regional participants Miami (FL) and Missouri State.  A Management major, DeFevers has a 3.90 grade point average.

TenEyck (Millbury, OH/Lake), a Sports Science major who holds a 3.83 grade point average,  finished ninth in the three-meter and 15th in the one-meter diving competitions at the Horizon League Championships in Brown Deer, Wisconsin.  She posted the team's top mark in one-meter diving during a home meet against Cleveland State on January 24 and the second-best mark in three-meter diving at the Miami Invitational in December.

Lovelady, in his second season at the helm of the baseball team, led the Raiders to the 2015 Horizon League Tournament title.  WSU then made its fifth all-time appearance in the NCAA Division I Regionals, advancing to the finals for the first-time ever before falling to host and nationally-ranked Illinois.  The Raiders, who posted the second-most wins in a season in program history with 43, defeated Ohio and Notre Dame for their first NCAA victories since 1994.

Voting for the Athlete of the Year Awards is conducted by members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee while the Coach of the Year Award is decided by a vote of Wright State's head coaches.
