Men's Soccer Defeats Cleveland State

The men's soccer team scored a goal early and one late in defeating Cleveland State 2-0 in Horizon League action Saturday night at Alumni Field.

Senior defender Kaique Fernandes gave the Raiders the lead for good with his second goal of the season at the 7:44 mark of the first half.  Fernandes knocked in a short shot into the right side of the goal following a throw-in from the left side by senior defender Jake Stovall.  It was Stovall's third assist of the year.

Sophomore forward Luke Treadway then gave WSU an insurance goal at the 80:26 mark of the second half on a sliding kick, just beating the Cleveland State goalkeeper for his second goal of the year.  Senior forward set the goal up with a kick from the left for his third assist of the season.

The Raider defense posted its seventh shutout of the year and sixth in league play, with senior goalkeeper Will Lukowski recording his third shutout in four matches, notching five saves in the process.  WSU has allowed just one goal in seven league contests in 2016, with that one goal coming at Green Bay on September 10.

Wright State led 12-9 in shots while the Vikings led 8-5 in corner kicks.

Wright State (9-4-2, 5-1-1 Horizon) travels to Penn State on Tuesday, October 25, at 7:00 for its final regular-season nonleague match of the season.
