Men Dominate Second Half for 77-62 Win at Murray State

Down six at the half, the Wright State men's basketball team dominated the second half, shooting 52 percent in outscoring Murray State 47-26 for a 77-62 win Thursday night at the CFSB Center.

The Racers controlled much of the first half, scoring the first five points of the game and later using a 10-0 run to go up 36-27 in the final minute of the period.

Mark Alstork, though, closed out the half with a three and that turned out to be the spark for the second half as the Raiders tallied the first nine points of the period to go up 39-36 with 16:58 to play.

Murray State cut the deficit to 59-58 at the 6:11 mark and the margin was three until WSU put the game out of reach with a 10-0 run, a run that featured threes by Grant Benzinger and Steven Davis, to make it 73-60 with 2:21 left.

After shooting 37 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, Wright State connected on 14 of 27 shots in the second half for 52 percent and also made 14 of 17 foul shots to end up at 16 of 20 overall from the line.  MSU, meanwhile, shot just 29 percent in the second half to finish at 34 percent.

Alstork led all scorers with 27 points, 17 coming in the first half, and also had six rebounds while Davis had 20 points, 13 in the second half, with seven boards.

Wright State (9-4) opens Horizon League play on Thursday, December 29, with a 7:00 contest at Oakland.
