A Davis three-point play cut the deficit to 15-9 with 13:18 remaining in the first half, only to see the Crusaders use another run, this time 13-2, to go up 28-11 en route to a 38-23 halftime lead.
Valpo shot 56 percent from the field in the first half compared to 32 percent for Wright State.
The Raiders drew to within seven twice in the late stages of the contest, the second at 62-55 on two free throws by Mark Alstork with 2:06 remaining, but could get no closer as the Crusaders scored the final eight points of the game.
WSU finished the game shooting 34 percent from the floor, but just three of 28 from three-point range and six of nine at the foul line, while Valparaiso shot 45 percent overall, hit seven of 23 three-pointers, and made 17 of 20 foul shots.
Alstork led the Raiders with 14 points while Davis 13 and Mitchell posted a double-double of 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Wright State (14-8, 5-4 Horizon) heads to the Windy City to take on UIC on Sunday, January 29, at 4:00 Dayton time.
