Volleyball Falls 3-1 to Oakland

The Wright State volleyball team fell to Oakland 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 18-25, 25-23) Saturday afternoon at WSU McLin Gym.

First Set Highlights

The match started out tight as the score remained close 15-14 until Oakland outscored the Raiders 10-3 to finish off the first set 25-17.  The Raiders were paced by four kills each from senior Megan Hopkins, with a .429 hitting percentage, and freshman Abby Barcus with four kills each as senior Katie Klusman had six digs and an ace. Senior Maddie Lohmeier 13 assists.   

Second Set Highlights

The second set was close from start to finish as neither team led by more than three points with the scored tied three times.  Hopkins continued to play well, hitting .400 for the set as she, Klusman and Bracus had three kills each. 

Third Set Highlights

After the break, the Raider came out strong in the third set, leading 3-0 early.  The Grizzlies came back to take the lead 11-9 until The Raiders pulled even at 11 and took the lead for good, outscoring OU 14-7 to seal the win 25-18.  Freshman Celia Powers collected four kills and hit .429 to lead the way.  Seniors Rachel Kremer and Jessie Thornton led on the defensive end with six and five digs, respectively. 

Fourth Set Highlights

The final set saw the Raiders race to a 7-2 lead, forcing an Oakland timeout.  WSU continued to lead until the Grizzlies cut the lead and tied the set at 16.  The teams went back and forth, tying the score six times until OU won 25-23.  Thornton collected nine more digs, and Klusman registered four kills.

For the match, Klusman ended with 13 kills and 11 digs as Hopkins had 12 kills with four block assists.  Lohmeier finished with 41 assists.  Teddie Sauer had nine kills.

Next Up

The Raiders, now 9-16 and 3-9, will travel next weekend to UIC Friday and Green Bay Saturday.
