Women's Basketball Defeats Indianapolis in Exhibition

The Wright State women's basketball team got in one final tuneup as they defeated University of Indianapolis in an exhibition game 92-44 Wednesday evening at the WSU Nutter Center.



First Quarter Highlights

The Raiders came out hot outscroing the Greyhounds 20-13, shooting 47% from the field and 33% behind the three-point line.  Junior Mackenzie Taylor led the way with five points while senior Chelsea Welch, Preseason Player of the Year, and sophomore Jalise Beck each pitched in four points.  Junior Symone Simmons had four rebounds.  UIndy shot 38% while both teams had eight rebounds.

Second Quarter Highlights

The first half came to a close with the Raiders up 38-24.  Taylor continued her hot hand with 10 points (4-6, 2-2) overall as Simmons grabbed four more boards.  Beck finished with seven points in the first 20 minutes as WSU shot 39%.

Third Quarter Highlights

The Raiders widened their lead in the third quarter as they outscored the Greyhounds 28-9.  Taylor increased her game high to 18 points while Welch and Emily Vogelpohl broke the double digit mark with 10 points each overall.  Simmons did the same with rebounds as she has 10 rebounds through the first three periods.  WSU's shooting improved as they hit 10 of 14 from the field, raising the percentage to 48.  Wright State led 66-33.

Fourth Quarter Highlights

Wright State pulled away with 26 points in the final quarter to end the game 92-44.  Five Raiders scored in double figures, led by Taylor's 18 points.  Vogelpohl had 13, while Beck finished with 12 followed by Dasia Evans 12 and Welch 10 points.  Simmons had 12 rebounds.  The Raiders had 36 points off the bench and 44 from turnovers as WSU had 13 steals.

The Raiders start the 2017-18 season at Northwestern Ohio in Lima Friday, November 10.  Game time is 6 pm.
