The Wright State volleyball team lost 3-0 at Green Bay Saturday evening (15-25, 9-25, and 16-25).
First Set Highlights
Wright State and Green Bay kept the score close in the beginning of the set tying the game at 2-2 and 3-3 before Green Bay went on a 3-0 run to take the lead at 6-3. Wright State quickly regained the momentum after a kill from freshman outside hitter Abby Barcus. The kill from Barcus jump started a 5-0 run by the Raiders which put Wright State in the lead at 8-6. Green Bay tied the game at 8-8 after back-to-back kills and continued their run taking the lead at 11-8 before Wright State called their first timeout. Coming out of the timeout both teams traded points pushing the score to 15-12 with Green Bay still in the lead. Wright State called their second and final timeout of the set at 18-12 after another 3-0 run by Green Bay. Coming out of the timeout the Raiders were able to put down three separate kills, but Green Bay outscored Wright State 7-3 with a couple of runs and won the first set 25-15. Senior middle hitter Megan Hopkins led the Raiders with four kills in the first set.
Second Set Highlights
Green Bay took the early lead in set two at 6-1 before freshman middle hitter Teddie Sauer put down a kill for Wright State. Green Bay quickly sided out with a kill at 7-2 and went on another run extending their lead to 10-2 before Wright State called their first timeout of the set. Coming out of the timeout both teams traded points back-and-forth pushing the score to 16-8 with Green Bay still in the lead. Green Bay extended their lead in the middle of the game to 22-8 after another 6-0 run where they put down three kills of their own and capitalized on three hitting errors from Wright State's front row. Wright State sided out after a service error by Green Bay late in the game, but another hitting error and back-to-back kills by Green Bay allowed the Phoenix to win set two 25-9.
Third Set Highlights
Wright State took an early lead in set three with back-to-back blocks putting them up 3-1 against Green Bay. Green Bay fought to tie the game at 4-4 and 5-5 before taking the lead at 8-5 prompting Wright State to take their first timeout of the set. Coming out of the timeout the Raiders went on a 4-1 run to tie the game again at 9-9. Green Bay answered back however with their own 4-1 run taking back the lead at 13-10. The Phoenix put down back-to-back kills to extend their lead to 15-10 prompting Wright State to take their second and final timeout of the set. Coming out of the timeout Wright State and Green Bay traded points pushing the score to 20-14 with the Phoenix still in the lead. Wright State fought to tie the score again late in the game, but a couple of runs by Green Bay allowed the Phoenix to win the final set 25-16. Hopkins led the Raiders with five kills in the third set, and also led the Raiders overall with ten kills for a solid .290 hitting percentage. Sophomore defensive specialist Hannah Colvin led the Raiders in the back row with 12 digs and also posted a service ace for Wright State.
