Detroit Mercy then went up 37-32 on a Brianne Cohen layup at the 2:24 mark of the second stanza before the Raiders closed the half with a 7-2 burst, capped off by a Chelsea Welch three at the buzzer, to send the game into halftime tied at 39.
Wright State shot 45 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes compared to 43 percent for the Titans.
Lexi Smith opened the third quarter scoring with a layup, only to see Detroit Mercy take control with a 14-3 run over the next five minutes.
A Haleigh Ristovski layup and Rosanna Reynolds foul shot put the Titans up 11 heading into the final period and the margin was 65-52 on another Ristovski basket with 9:44 to play in the game.
The Raiders, though, would attempt a comeback from there, starting with a 12-2 run, nine coming from Welch, to cut the deficit to 67-64 with 6:40 remaining.
WSU would then close to within one on three different occasions, the final time being 73-72 on two Smith foul shots at the 3:35 mark.
Wright State, though, could not get over the hump as the Titans scored the next five points and later sealed the game by making five of six free throws the final two minutes.
The Raiders shot 44 percent from the field in the second half, but could not overcome Detroit Mercy shooting 65 percent from the floor and hitting 10 of 13 foul shots.
Welch, who earlier in the day was selected as the Horizon League Player of the Week, led all scorers with 29 points, with 17 of her 20 second-half points coming in the fourth quarter. She also dished out six assists.
Mackenzie Taylor added 17 points and six boards while Smith posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.
