Men Roll Over UIC in Regular-Season Finale

The Wright State men's basketball team shot 52 percent for the game and hit 13 three-pointers in rolling to an 87-49 Horizon League victory in the regular-season finale for both teams Sunday afternoon at Wright State's Nutter Center.

UIC opened the scoring on a Marcus Ottey jumper, but it was all WSU from there, starting with a 12-0 run that featured a pair of Steven Davis three-pointers.

The Raiders then closed the first half with a 24-8 run over the final 7:28, nine by Ryan Custer on three three-pointers, to go up 40-19.

Wright State shot 48 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes compared to just 22 percent for the Flames.

The Raiders extended the margin throughout most of the second half, with the biggest lead being 87-40 on two Trey Stacey free throws with 4:42 remaining.

WSU shot 52 percent overall, including 13 of 29 behind the arc, and also made 12 of 14 foul shots while UIC shot 31 percent altogether and three of 25 from three-point range.

Davis tied a career high with 27 points to pace the Raiders while Justin Mitchell had 17, Mark Alstork 14 along with 10 assists and Grant Benzinger chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.

Wright State (20-11, 11-7) will be the #5 seed for the upcoming Little Caesars Horizon League Championship, which begins Friday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.  The Raiders open tournament play on Sunday, March 5, at 7:30 against #4 seed Northern Kentucky.
