The Wright State baseball team led 8-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, only to see Gardner-Webb rally with seven runs in its final three at bats to pull out a 9-8 decision Tuesday afternoon at John H. Moss Stadium.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring with a run in the first before the Raiders tied it in the top of the third with an unearned run.
Gardner-Webb went back in front with a run of its own in the third and it stayed that way until WSU came to bat in the top of the fifth, a frame that saw Wright State score six runs. A Zach Weatherford plated the first two runs and a JD RBI single made it 4-2. Seth Gray later added a two-run double and Alex Alders drove in the final run with a double of his own.
The Raiders then extended the lead to 8-2 with a run in the seventh as Orr drove in Matt Morrow.
The Bulldogs started their comeback with four runs in their half of the seventh, tied the score at 8-8 with two more in the eighth and tallied the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth.
WSU's 2-5 hitters (Weatherford, Orr, Gray and Alders) each had two hits while Weatherford, Orr and Gray each drove in two. Adrian Marquez scored twice.
Wright State (3-4) wraps up the two-game set with Gardner-Webb on Wednesday at 3:00. The game was originally set for 5:00, but was moved up due to thunderstorms in the forecast.
