The Wright State baseball team could not overcome four home runs by Xavier as the Musketeers defeated the Raiders 7-4 Tuesday afternoon at Hayden Field.
Xavier used the long ball to take a first inning lead as a two-run blast by Rylan Bannon followed by a Sam Flamini solo shot made it 3-0. After adding single runs in the fourth and fifth, a solo home run by Nate Monastra in the sixth extended the Musketeer lead to 6-0.
WSU cut the deficit in half with three runs in the seventh. JD Orr led off with a single and after a one-out double by Adrian Marquez, Gabe Snyder tripled to left center to knock in both Orr and Marquez. Nick Weybright then singled in Snyder to make it 6-3.
Xavier, however, answered in the bottom of the seventh with a Mitch Gallagher solo home run and it stayed that until a solo home run by Marquez in the ninth, his fourth of the season, rounded out the scoring.
Wright State (12-7) returns to Horizon League play this weekend with a three-game home series against Milwaukee at Nischwitz Stadium, starting with a single game on Friday, March 24, at 6:30.
