The Wright State women's basketball team jumped out to a 19-8 lead after a quarter and never looked back in rolling to a 79-52 decision over UIC in the Horizon League Quarterfinals Saturday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

The Flames scored the first four points of the contest before the Raiders answered with nine straight to go in front for good.  WSU then extended the margin into double figures with a 10-1 run, including threes from Chelsea Welch and Mackenzie Taylor, en route to a 19-8 lead heading into the second period.

Wright State gradually built on the advantage throughout the second stanza, going up 34-13 on a Symone Simmons triple and later taking a 38-15 halftime lead by scoring the final four points of the quarter.

The Raiders shot just 36 percent from the field compared to 26 percent for UIC, but led 20-2 in points off of turnovers as they forced 16 miscues while committing only four.  WSU also led 13-3 in second-chance points.

The lead never dipped below 18 in the second half with the largest margin being 28 on two occasions, the second at 54-26 on an Antania Hayes layup at the 2:08 mark of the third quarter.

The shooting percentages finished nearly similar as Wright State shot 42 percent compared to 40 percent for the Flames.  The Raiders, though, had 15 more field goal attempts and were nine of 18 from three-point range while UIC was three of 12.

WSU also led 34-13 in points off of turnovers and 21-8 in second-chance points.

Welch led the Raiders with 18 points while Emily Vogelpohl had 15, Lexi Smith 12 and Simmons 11.

Wright State (24-7) advances to the semifinals on Monday, March 6, at 3:30 against the winner of Sunday's quarterfinal matchup between #3 Detroit Mercy and #6 Cleveland State.
