Softball Splits With Oakland

The Wright State softball team split a doubleheader with Oakland to close out the Horizon League series Saturday afternoon at the WSU Softball Field, with the Golden Grizzlies taking the opener 6-4 before the Raiders won game two 7-5.

Oakland took the early lead in game one with a pair of runs in the third and it stayed that way until WSU tallied three runs in the fifth.  Kate Pfeffer singled in the first run and after an error tied it, a RBI hit from Honnah Susor made it 3-2.

Wright State added another run in the sixth on a Becka Peterson RBI double off the fence in center, but the Golden Grizzlies rallied for four runs in the seventh to take the victory.

Susor and Peterson each had two hits in the opener for the Raiders.

In the second game, Oakland again took a 2-0 lead, this time in the second, only to see the Raiders answer with a pair in their half of the inning.  WSU added two more in the third and three in the fourth on a Peterson double with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 7-2.

The Golden Grizzlies scored twice in the fifth and added another in the seventh, but Lauren Deitrick earned her first save with a ground out to end the game.  Ashley Sharp (10-9) went the first five innings for the win.

At the plate, Susor had three hits and two runs scored while Peterson drove in four and Vivi Marquez had two hits.

Wright State (14-21, 9-3 Horizon) is right back in league play on Tuesday and Wednesday with a three-game series at Youngstown State, starting with a doubleheader Tuesday at 3:00.
