The Wright State softball team dropped its Horizon League series finale at Youngstown State Wednesday afternoon by a 7-4 score.
WSU scored a run in the first as Honnah Susor led off the game with a double down the left field line and came in on Libby Pfeffer's hit through the left side of the inning. YSU, however, answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the first, added three more in the second and another in the fourth to go up 5-1.
The Raiders cut into the deficit with a pair of runs in the fifth as a ground out by pinch-hitter Jordan Kennaw plated pinch-runner Ashton Salyers with the first run and Susor followed with a single to center to drive in Vivi Marquez.
The Penguins, though, responded with two runs of their own in the fifth and held on for the win despite WSU tallying a run in the sixth on a Marquez double that knocked in pinch-runner Karalyn Rhodeback.
Susor and Pfeffer each had two hits to lead the way for the Raiders.
Wright State (14-24, 9-6 Horizon) is now off until opening an eight-game homestand at the WSU Softball Field on Tuesday, April 25, with a 5:00 doubleheader against the Miami RedHawks.
