The Wright State softball team split a doubleheader with Miami Tuesday evening at the WSU Softball Field, rallying for a 5-4 win in the opener before falling 7-1 in the second game.
Miami took a 2-0 lead in the first game with single runs in the first and third before the Raiders cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third. With one out, Honnah Susor singled up the middle, stole second, went to third on a Macey Gunther hit and scored on Libby Pfeffer's sacrifice fly to left.
The RedHawks, though, added two runs in the fifth and it stayed that way until WSU put together a rally in the sixth. With one out, walks to Kelly Dillow and Kate Pfeffer set the stage for Alexis Mayle, who connected on a 0-1 pitch for a three-run tying home run to left center, her fifth of the season.
Wright State, however, wasn't through as, with two out, Susor had an infield single, stole second and scored the game-winning run on Gunther's single up the middle.
Ashley Sharp (12-11) picked up the win with 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, including retiring the side in order in the seventh. At the plate, Susor had two hits and two runs scored while Gunther also had two hits.
In the second game, the RedHawks scored single runs in the second and fourth and later took control of the contest with four runs in the fifth. The lone Raider run came in the fourth as Susor smacked a solo home run to right, her first of the year.
Libby Pfeffer had three hits in the second game for Wright State (15-25), who returns to Horizon League play this weekend with a three-game home series against UIC, starting with a single game on Friday, April 28, at 6:00.
