Softball Splits With UIC

The Wright State softball team split a Horizon League doubleheader with UIC on Sunday at the WSU Softball Field, winning the completion of a game suspended from Friday 2-1 before falling in the finale 3-1.

WSU tallied two unearned runs in the second inning before the rains came on Friday and made that stand up as play resumed on Sunday.  The Flames cut the deficit in half on a Kayla Wedl home run in the sixth, but would get no closer.

Ashley Sharp threw four shutout innings for the win, striking out three.  At the plate, Macy Cook and Becka Peterson each had two hits.

In the second game, the Raiders again took advantage of a pair of UIC errors to score a run.  Honnah Susor reached on an error, went to third on a Macey Gunther along with a Flame throwing error and scored on a Libby Pfeffer sacrifice fly.

It stayed that way until UIC put together a two-out rally with a walk and four straight hits to score three runs, including a Jennah Speth double and a Lexi Watts triple.

Wright State (17-26, 11-7 Horizon) closes out the home portion of its schedule with a three-game midweek Horizon League series against Northern Kentucky, starting with a single game on Tuesday, May 2, at 5:00.
