Softball Run-Rules Northern Kentucky in Series Opener

The Wright State softball team scored in all but one inning, including five runs in the second, in posting an 8-0 run-rule decision over Northern Kentucky in Horizon League action Tuesday at the WSU Softball Field.

WSU scored a run in the first without the benefit of a hit as after loading the bases on walks by Honnah Susor and Macey Gunther and Libby Pfeffer being hit by a pitch, Becka Peterson drew a walk to force in Susor.

The Raiders then broke the game open with five runs in the second.  With one out, Kate Pfeffer and Susor walked and Libby Pfeffer reached on a two-out error to load the bases.  Vivi Marquez drove in two with a hit to left and Macy Cook followed with a three-run home run along the left field line, her second of the season.

Wright State added another run in the third on a Gunther ground out and forced the run-rule in the fifth as Susor doubled and scored on a Gunther single to center.

Ashley Sharp (14-12) gave up a two-out double in the first, but that turned out to be the only hit on the day for NKU as the junior right hander faced just three batters over the minimum, striking out two.

Cook finished with two hits to go with the three RBI while Susor had two hits and three runs scored.

Wright State (18-26, 12-7 Horizon) closes out the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday as it wraps up the series with Northern Kentucky with a 3:00 doubleheader.
