The Wright State baseball team exploded for a 16-4 win over Youngstown State in the first game, but couldn't carry that momentum into the second game, falling 5-2 to the Penguins to split a doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Niles, Ohio.

YSU scored a run in the first inning of game one, only to see the Raiders answer with four runs in the second.  After walks to Cory Heffron, Nick Weybright and Zach Weatherford, Brandon Giltrow singled in two runs with the other two scoring on a wild pitch and an Adrian Marquez double.

Heffron scored on a passed ball to make it 5-1 in the third and WSU made it 7-3 in the fourth as Marquez doubled, Gabe Snyder tripled and Heffron had a sacrifice fly.

Wright State pulled away late by scoring nine runs over the final three innings, tallying three in the seventh, two in the eighth and four in the ninth. 

Ryan Weiss (4-0) earned the win as he struck out seven in six innings of work.  Jeremy Randolph and Mitch Gremling combined to shut out Youngstown State over the final three innings.

At the plate, Marquez, Seth Gray and Heffron had had two hits while Kevin Whatley drove in three and JD Orr, Marquez and Giltrow two each.

In the second game, the Raiders scored twice in the top of the third.  Weatherford led off with a walk and scored on a Whatley double.  After Giltrow bunted Whatley to third, he scored on a Matt Morrow ground out.

Youngstown State, though, tied it in the bottom of the third and added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth on solo home runs.  WSU had the potential tying run at the plate in the ninth as Snyder walked and Gray doubled with one out, but the next two batters were retired to end the game.

Orr and Whatley each had two hits in the second game for Wright State (21-8, 11-1 Horizon), who hosts Xavier on Tuesday, April 11, at Nischwitz Stadium starting at 6:30.
