Baseball Drops Decision to Cincinnati

The Wright State baseball team rallied from an early 7-2 deficit to go up 8-7 in the fourth, only to see Cincinnati score the final four runs of the game to defeat the Raiders 11-8 Tuesday night at Nischwitz Stadium.

UC tallied three runs in the top of the first before WSU answered with a pair in its half of the inning.  Zach Weatherford doubled down the left field line and scored on a Seth Gray single.  Kevin Whatley later walked with the bases loaded to force in a run.

Cincinnati extended its margin to 7-2 with four runs in the second, but back came the Raiders with six straight runs, starting with two in the third on a two-run home run by Gabe Snyder, his 10th of the season and fifth in the last six games.

Wright State then took the lead for the first time at 8-7 with four runs in the fourth.  Snyder was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to produce the first run and after a Gray sacrifice fly made it 7-6, JD Orr tied the game with a double.  Snyder later scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball.

The Bearcats, though, regained the advantage with three runs in the seventh and added another run in the eighth to round out the scoring.

Weatherford and Alex Alders each had two hits for WSU while Snyder scored three times and Weatherford and Adrian Marquez twice each.

Wright State (29-14) hosts a pair of Horizon League doubleheaders this weekend at Nischwitz Stadium, taking on Northern Kentucky on Friday, May 5, and Youngstown State on Saturday, May 6, with both starting at 1:00.
