The Wright State softball team took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, only to see Valparaiso rally with a pair of runs in the sixth to pull out a 2-1 Horizon League decision in the regular season finale for both teams Sunday afternoon at the Valparaiso Softball Complex.
After Crusader pitcher Mackenzie Grossmann retired the first nine WSU batters she faced, the Raider offense came alive in the fourth. Honnah Susor led off with a walk, stole second and scored as Macey Gunther doubled to left center. Gunther moved up to third on a Libby Pfeffer grounder, but was left stranded there.
It stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth, when Valpo pushed across a pair of runs with two outs to take the lead. The Raiders were then retired in order in the seventh to end the game.
Wright State (20-29, 14-10 Horizon) will be the #4 seed for the upcoming league tournament, which will take place at Flames Field on the UIC campus. The Raiders will face #5 seed Detroit Mercy in the opening game on Wednesday, May 10, at 1:00 Eastern.
