Wright State women's soccer rolls to a 4-0 victory to open conference play against Youngstown State Friday night at WSU Alumni Field.
First Half Highlights
After scoring both goals last year in a 2-1 overtime victory over Youngstown State, junior
Mattie Cutts found the back of the net for her first goal this season on a header from a well-placed corner kick by
Sarah Colvin in the 28th minute. Less than ten minutes later, sophomore
Jordyne Helinski scored her third goal of the season on another assist by
Sarah Colvin.Â
Second Half Highlights
The Raiders continued to put pressure on the Penguin defense to start the second half. In the 49th minute, redshirt sophomore
Monica Hennen notched her first goal of the season, assisted by junior
Aaliyah Patten. Just 43 seconds later, Patten was on the receiving end of a ball sent through by Cutts and Colvin, burying it in the back of the net. The Raiders constant pressure amounted to 17 total shots with 11 on goal for the evening. The Raiders stout defensive effort was just as impressive as the offense, holding the Penguins to eight shots with only one on goal and led to sophomore
Maddie Jewell's second shutout in the last three games and third the season. The four goals by the Raiders is the highest output in a single game this season.  Â
