9/7/2017 3:24:00 PM | Men's Soccer
The Wright State Raiders (1-2-1) play host to the Oakland Grizzlies (1-3-0) for the Raiders first Horizon League game of the season Saturday at 7 pm. The game will be shown on ESPN3.
Wright State
The Raiders return from their two-game road trip against the #19 West Virginia Mountaineers and the Ohio State Buckeyes, falling 4-1 and 2-0. AJ Paterson has been on a tear recently with his hat trick against Cincinnati on August 28, earning him the Horizon League Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Paterson also had the only goal in the game against the Mountaineers. Goalie Joel Sundell had three saves against Ohio State this past Monday.
Oakland
The Grizzlies arrive riding a three-game losing streak. Oakland has been picked for the third consecutive season to finish at the top of the Horizon League Men's Soccer Preseason Poll. The Grizzlies have three returning seniors Austin Ricci, Wilfred Williams, and Keenan King. They also boast two 2016 All-Freshman Team selections Nebijsa Popovic and Nyal Higgins.
Oakland leads the overall series by 10-2-4, but the Raiders took the regular-season match in the 2016, 1-0. The teams also met in the semi-finals of the Horizon League Tournament last November, tying 1-1 but WSU came out on top in penalty kicks 6-5 to advance to the finals.
