Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight

Raiders play at Detroit Mercy Saturday

Four Raiders with double-figure scoring performances led the Wright State women's basketball team to its second straight win as WSU won 77-57 at Oakland Thursday night.  Chelsea Welch was tops for the Raiders with 23 points while Emily Vogelpohl posted a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Mackenzie Taylor finished with 12 points.  Symone Simmons had 10 points and 10 rebounds.  WSU is now 11-4, 2-1 while Oakland falls to 8-6, 1-2.

GAME SUMMARY

First Half Highlights
  • The Raiders jumped out to a 6-0 lead and didn't look back as they posted a first half advantage of 39-24.
  • Oakland did closed the first quarter trailing 16-13 and drew within two points at 19-17 but WSU finished the half on a 20-7 run.
  • Welch led the Raiders with 11 points while Taylor had nine points.
  • Vogelpohl closed in on a double-double with eight points and eight rebounds.
  • WSU shot 38%, connecting on four threes.
  • Wright State grabbed 25 rebounds to OU's 18.

  • Oakland shrank the 15-point halftime lead to 10 as WSU was up 52-42 after 30 minutes of play.

  • Vogelpohl posted her second double-double of the season after doing it four times last season.
  • It was Vogelpohl's career-best rebounding night.
  • Welch ended with 23 points for her fifth straight 20+ night.
  • WSU shot 45% overall from the field and grabbed 41 rebounds.
