#16 @WSU_Mens_Soccer Drops Heart-Breaker at Green Bay Saturday

The 16th ranked Wright State men's soccer team played its final road match of the season Saturday night in Green Bay, as the Raiders played for the opportunity to guarantee the regular season title in the Horizon League with a win or a tie.

First Half
At the onset of the match, the Raiders had to rely heavily on their defense, as the Phoenix launched several attacks toward the Wright State net. As has been the case for the majority of the season, the Wright State defense did a great job of keeping the opposition out of the dangerous areas of the field early on. Coming in to the match as the Horizon League leader in shots per game, the Raiders didn't take their first shot of the match until the 20th minute, but the shot sailed over the crossbar and out of trouble. After their first shot of the match, the Raiders began to find their offensive rhythm, forcing the Phoenix to surrender a few consecutive corner kicks. Alec Philippe had the best chance from all of the corners on a leaping headed attempt but was unable to convert the difficult opportunity. Both teams were content to play for possession for the majority of the first frame, and at the halftime whistle the match remained scoreless.

Second Half
The first several minutes of the second stanza were played in the Raiders' defensive zone, as the green and gold surrendered three corner kicks in the first seven minutes of half number two. The Phoenix were unable to convert on any of these opportunities, as reigning Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year Dan Bent had his back line well organized to defend against Green Bay's attack. In a very back-and-forth, physical match, the two teams were still fighting to gain an upper hand into the final 15 minutes of regulation. In the 80th minute, Tomer Zloczower put a shot past Joel Sundell to put the Phoenix ahead 1-0 in the match. The Raiders got one more good chance on a Dominik Tajak shot, but Nikola Kahvedzic made a great save to preserve the shutout.

Up Next
The Raiders will round out the regular season at Alumni Field on Friday, as the green and gold will host their annual Senior Night. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm, with Senior Night festivities to take place around 15 minutes prior to kick-off.
