Head coach Scott Nagy announced Wednesday that four high school seniors have signed national letters of intent to attend Wright State University and play basketball for the Raiders beginning next fall.
Â
The Raiders sign Trey Calvin from St Viator High School (IL), Noah Freidel from Tea Area High School (SD), Andre Harris from Charles F. Brush High School (OH) and Tanner Holden from Wheelersburg High School (OH).
Â
"We think this is a great start to our 2019 class," Coach Nagy said. "It is beneficial to sign four top notch players early, which allows us to focus on filling our last scholarship for next season."
Â
Trey Calvin is a 6-0 guard who plays at St. Viator High School in Illinois. Last season he led his team to 24 wins and a perfect record in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. He averaged 16 points adding five rebounds and dishing out three assists per game. Calvin shot 44 percent from behind the arc for the year and capped off a great season by winning the 4H IHSA State Three-Point Shootout this past March.
Â
"Trey is a tremendous ballhandler and shooter," Coach Nagy said. "We think he can play the one and two very well at the college level. He is a tremendous defender as well, which will give him a chance to play for us very early."
Â
Noah Freidel is a 6-4 guard who plays at Tea Area High School in South Dakota. He was a member of the 2017 South Dakota Class A State Championship and his team finished 2018 South Dakota Class A State Runner-Up. Last season, as a Junior, Freidel averaged 26 points on 48.5 percent shooting from the floor with six rebounds and two assists per game and was named to the South Dakota Class A All-State Boy's Basketball Team. He set a school record by scoring 47 points against Flandreau Indian on 15-28 from the field (7-12 from three), 10-10 from the free throw line with six rebounds and six assists.
Â
"Noah is a smart, versatile scorer who averaged 26 points a game last year," Coach Nagy said. "He gives us versatility at the two and three sports."
Andre Harris is a 6-3 guard who plays at Brush High School in Lyndhurst, OH. During his junior campaign, he averaged 13 points snaring seven rebounds adding four assists and two steals. Harris led his team to a third straight Western Reserve Conference championship, and the team finished as a Division I Euclid District semifinalist. A first-team All-Conference selection, he was also named third-team All-District in Northeast Ohio.
Â
"Andre is a tough-minded wing player and a tremendous athlete who shoots it well and can guard anybody," Coach Nagy said.
Â
Tanner Holden is a 6-6 dual athlete at Wheelersburg High School in Ohio. For his efforts during his junior year, Holden was named to the 2018 First-Team All-State Division III in Ohio by averaging nearly 18 points and hauling in 11 rebounds per game. He is also a standout football player. After winning the 2017 Division V State Football Championship he was honored with the 2017 Division V Co-Offensive Player of the Year award and was a finalist for the Mr. Football Award in Ohio.
Â
"Tanner is another versatile wing player, that could even play the four for us depending on the lineup," Coach Nagy said. "We like the fact that he is a multisport athlete because we know it gives him toughness. He is used to winning, and that is important to us."
Â
The Raiders will host Toledo Wednesday night at the WSU Nutter Center. For tickets, call (937) 775-4934 or email Raidertix@wright.edu.
