@WSUVBALL Ends Successful Season at HL Tournament

First Better than .500 Record Since 2003

Qualifying for its first Horizon League Tournament in 10 years, the Wright State volleyball team fell to Northern Kentucky 3-2 by scores of 25-21, 21-25, 22-25, 25-14 and 15-9.

Teddie Sauer collected 14 kills and hit .379 while posting eight blocks.  Mallory Ladd had 11 kills and Alannah Lemming nine.  Lainey Stephenson put up 43 assists and 21 digs.  Overall, The Raiders had 54 kills, 84 digs, 28 blocks and seven aces.

The Raiders had a banner year under first-year head coach Allie Matters as they also posted the first .500 or better season since 2003 at 15-14, the most league wins since 2008 with seven and placed three players on the all-league teams for the first time since 2001.

First Set
The Norse came out strong  to take early leads and won the match 25-21, though the Raiders outscored NKU 10-2 late to cause a timeout.  Sauer led the way with four kills with two from Stephenson and Ladd as Hannah Colvin pitched in two aces.  Sauer and Powers each had two blocks.

Second Set
The set stayed within one or two points early until the Norse pulled out 13-9.  The Raiders clawed their way back to a 16-15 deficit and tied it at 18 before taking the lead 20-18 to cause a NKU timeout.  WSU went on to win the set 25-21.  Ladd had four kills with Lemming adding three as the Raiders hit .119.  Stephenson ended with nine assists.

Third Set
The teams stayed tight early until NKU pulled away 15-11 before the Raiders outscored the Norse 6-1.  WSU's rally continued as they won 25-22.  Celia Powers picked up four kills and Ladd three as the Raiders hit .371.  Stephenson had 13 assists and seven digs.

Fourth Set
The teams started out the same as the third set with teams exchanging leads when NKU went up 14-9 and 18-12.  Northern Kentucky cruised to a 25-14 win.  Sauer had four kills.

Fifth Set
The score bounced back and forth as it stood tied at 5-5 but NKU went up 8-6 as the teams traded benches.  NKU scored four of the next six points as the Raiders stayed close but the Norse won 15-9.  Sauer added three kills while Stephenson collected six assists.
