Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | AJ Schraffenberger

@WSUWBasketball Falls to Michigan State Sunday

East Lansing, Mich. – The Wright State women's basketball team was back on the road on Sunday afternoon after dropping their home opener to Belmont on Thursday night. The Raiders were in East Lansing to take on the Michigan State Spartans, a team they had played only once previously, a 67-61 loss all the way back in 1987.

First Half
The Raiders came out of the gates playing very evenly with the Spartans, draining three 3-point attempts in the first quarter alone. Mackenzie Taylor would help stoke the fire for the Raiders in the first half, scoring 8 points before the half was over. Coming into the game, junior guard Shay Colley was averaging an impressive 10.9 ppg for the Spartans. She proved to be too much for the Raiders offensively throughout the contest, and helped Michigan State to a 12-point halftime advantage.

Second Half
Neither side had a particularly impressive third quarter, as both teams managed just 16 points in the frame, this would prove costly for the Raiders, who were already fighting against the clock with a 12-point defecit to overcome. Mackenzie Taylor continued to shine for the Raiders in the second half, and would go on to set a new career high in points for the second game in a row with 19 after scoring 13 Thursday night against Belmont. The Spartans were able to bottle up talented freshman Angel Baker, who had been named Horizon League Freshman of the Week in her first two collegiate games, limiting her to just three points and six turnovers in her 14 minutes on the floor. Michigan State would outscore the Raiders by four in the fourth quarter, and go on to win by a final score of 84-68.

Up Next
The Raiders (1-3) will head to Nashville, Tennessee next weekend to play three games in as many days against Hofstra, Stetson, and Marist respectively. Friday's match-up against Hofstra is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. tip-off.
