@WSUVBall Upsets Cleveland State

Raiders Win 3-2

The Wright State volleyball team entered the final weekend of the regular season with a home match against Cleveland State Friday night and won 3-2 by scores of 26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 20-25 and 15-11.  WSU is now 14-13 and 6-9 while the Vikings are 17-10 and 11-4.

The Raiders were led by four in double-digit kills: Celia Powers 16, Alannah Lemming 15, Grace Hauck 13 and Mallory Ladd 10.  Lainey Stephenson finished with 52 assists and 25 digs while fellow freshman Jenna Story ended with 27 digs.

The six league wins are the most by Wright State since 2008.

First Set
WSU led early 12-9, but the Vikings fought back to take the lead 15-14.  The set bounced back and forth until CSU held a 24-22 lead, and the Raiders came back to win 26-24.  Hauck and Lemming led the attack with four kills each with Powers and Ladd adding three each.  Stephenson collected 14 assists as Jenna Strong had seven digs.  The Raiders hit .277 overall.

Second Set
CSU jumped to an 8-4 lead as the Raiders cut the lead at 12-11 and tied it at 13.  WSU took the lead 14-13 and increased it to 18-16, causing a Viking timeout.  WSU led 24-18 for set point and won 25-20.  Powers had six kills and an ace to lead the way while Ladd pitched in three kills.  Stephenson added 11 assists.  WSU hit .171 with 20 team kills

Third Set
The Vikings moved to an early lead once again 9-6 as WSU tried to stay close and tied it at nine each.  The Raiders took the lead 11-10 and 13-11.  WSU increased its advantage but CSU came back to lead 24-22 and won 25-22.  Powers had another six kills with Lemming and Hauck collecting three each.  Stephenson ended with 12 assists and nine digs.

Fourth Set
Cleveland State took the lead 7-4 and 10-7 but the Raiders hung around and tied it at 10.  WSU took a 16-13 advantage before the Vikings tied it at 17.  CSU took over with 20-17 lead, winning 25-20.  Four kills from Lemming and Hauck paced the Raiders with 13 digs from Story and nine assists and six digs from Stephenson.

Fifth Set
The Raiders were aggressive from the start up 5-1 early then went up 8-4 at the bench switch.  WSU went on to win 15-11.  Lemming and Ladd each had two kills as Stephenson and Ruskaup each collected an ace. 

Next Up
The Raiders will end the regular season Saturday at 4 pm by hosting Youngstown State.  It will be Senior Day as the Raiders will honor Alannah Lemming and Bailey Wheatley prior to the match.
