@WSU_MBB Cruises to Win over IUPUI

Raiders Pickup First League Win

The Wright State men's basketball team picked up its first Horizon League victory as the Raiders pulled away against IUPUI at home Sunday afternoon, winning 72-64.  WSU is now 7-8, 1-1 while the Jaguars fall to 8-7, 0-2.

Junior Bill Wampler, who didn't start for the first time this year, came off the bench to collect 22 points in 31 minutes.  Cole Gentry also pitched in high numbers with 20 points, going 10-10 from the free throw line.  Gentry's perfect performance from the line tied a school record set by eight others, shooting 100% with at least 10 free throws attempted.  Loudon Love, who did start after being limited the last two games due to an injury, and Mark Hughes each ended with 10 points.  Parker Ernsthausen continued his strong play as he had key defensive plays, adding five assists and four boards.  WSU shot 44% from the field but were outrebounded 38-28.

First Half
IUPUI jumped to a 4-0 lead early, but the Raiders roared back with nine unanswered points by the first media timeout.  WSU held the lead throughout the half, including 31-25 with less than four minutes remaining.  Wright State went to the locker room up 35-32.  Wampler led all scorers with 15 points while Gentry finished with seven and Vest with six.  Love grabbed four rebounds, and Ernsthausen dished five assists.  IUPUI outrebounded the Raiders 18-16, including eight offensive boards.

Second Half
The Raiders went up by nine at 45-36 after a three from Gentry with about 16 minutes left and 47-38 following a monster dunk by Skyelar Potter at 14:50.  The Jags battled back to tie the game at 57 but the Raiders never gave up the lead, going up by as much as 11 down the stretch to win 72-64.  Gentry topped the Raiders in the second 20 minutes with 13 points.

Nagy Said
"I really do feel like they are the most physical team in the league, and I was frustrated that they beat us up in the post.  I give Jason (IUPUI head coach) a lot of credit.  They have had a good year, but they had a tough stretch, starting league play with two on the road.  I have coached a lot of games, and I can count on one hand how many games we've won after being ourebounded by 10."
