Raiders Slip to a Hot IUPUI Team

Wright State men's basketball team ran into a hot IUPUI team that has now won four of its last five games as they fell 66-56 at IUPUI Friday afternoon.

Wright State shot 33% from the field overall and went 5-19 from three-point range with 17 turnovers.  Freshman Everett Winchester came off the bench to lead the Raiders with 12 points as senior Grant Benzinger added 11 points.  The Raiders did shoot 83% from the line and outrebounded the Jaguars 36-28.

WSU is now 21-9 and 13-4 while IUPUI, winner of four of their last five, goes to 11-17 and 8-9.

GAME SUMMARY

First Half Highlights
  • A real slow start for both teams with IUPUI holding a 3-0 lead until Everett Winchester scored at 14:22.
  • The teams went to the locker rooms tied at 27 each as the buzzer blew.
  • The teams exchanged leads as WSU's largest lead was three points at the six minute mark and IUPUI's largest lead was five points at 1:33 left.
  • Cole Gentry led WSU with seven points as Parker Ernsthausen and Winchester added six points each.  Loudon Love grabbed seven rebounds.
  • WSU shot 35% while the Jags shot 40% from the field.
Second Half Highlights
  • The Raiders and Jaguars traded the lead with the Raiders posting their largest lead of four with 16:19 remaining.
  • IUPUI's largest lead was 10 points to end the game and led for the final 8:31 though the Jaguars did not score a field goal in the final 5:50.
  • Wright State shot 32% (7-22) from the field but the Raiders' defense held IUPUI to 42% (8-19).
  • The Jags did take 26 free throws in the second half, making 21.
FACTS AND FIGURES
  • The Raiders outscored IUPUI 20-18 in the paint and 11-0 on fast breaks.
  • IUPUI outscored the Raiders off turnovers 18-10 and from the bench 28-16.
POST-GAME REACTION

"Our kids played hard, just look at the rebounding.  We held them to three offensive rebounds and 41% from the field.  We made some mistakes but they played hard.  Give credit to IUPUI, they do a great job.  You can't have 17 turnovers, especially on the road."
