Sharp Sets Records as @WSU_SB Sweeps Oakland

The Wright State softball team was back in action at Oakland University on Friday, and picked up two extra inning victories. The Raiders won 1-0 in eight innings in game one, and won game two 3-2 in 12 innings.

Senior Ashley Sharp was credited with wins in both games as she started the first game and relieved in the second game on her way to set two new career records.  Sharp became the all-time leader in career wins and shutouts in Wright State softball history. She broke Krystian DeWitt's record of 56 wins from 2011-2014, and Kim Sycks' record of 13 shutouts from 1998-2001.

"It's really nice to see the growth every day in our young team, and the leadership that come from our senior class this season," Sharp said.  "It is crazy to how far we have come since our first games in February.  It's nice to see us coming together when we play and having each other's backs."

Game one was dominated by the pitching performance of Sharp. She pitched all eight innings and only allowed four hits while shutting out the Golden Grizzlies. The lone run was scored by Kelly Dillow in the top of the eighth inning on a wild pitch.

Game two was another very closely contested game, as the Raiders again found the run they needed late.  Madison Whitaker and Rebekah Lenos ended with a hit and an RBI.  Honnah Susor added two hits, as Dillow and Lauren Dietrick finished with a hit each.

"We were incredibly resilient today, and had a tremendous pitching performance from Ashley Sharp," WSU head coach Laura Matthews said.  "I could not be more proud of our fight today."

The Raiders move to 14-21 on the season, and 8-5 in conference play.
