@WSU_SB Drops Two to YSU

The Wright State softball team concluded their three-game series with Youngstown State with a double header at the WSU Softball Field Wednesday afternoon. The Raiders lost in two very competitive games, falling 1-0 and 6-4.

Game one was a low-scoring affair as both teams struggled to find offense. It was tied 0-0 after seven innings, so the teams had to enter extra innings. Youngstown State was able to find their lone run in the eighth inning, which proved to be enough to hold off the Raiders. Ashley Sharp had another outstanding pitching performance by pitching all eight innings, and only allowing six hits and no earned runs.

Game two began with the Raiders getting off to a hot offensive start by scoring all four runs in the first two innings. But the early offensive spurt wasn't quite enough as Youngstown State fought their way back and managed six runs in the third and fourth innings. Macey Gunther and Rebekah Lenos had two hits each on the day, and Gunther added an RBI. The top of the batting order for WSU proved to be very strong, as Lauren Deitrick, Honnah Susor, and Jordan Kennaw finished with a hit and an RBI in the two games. Ally Russell, Maddux Hughes, and Ashley Sharp all combined in their pitching effort in game two.

The Raiders fall to 14-28 on the season and 8-8 in conference play, with only seven games remaining on their schedule. They travel to Chicago to play the first of three games on Friday against UIC at 5:00 pm.
