@WSU_SB Moves into Semi-Finals

The Wright State softball team took on the hosts of the Horizon League Tournament and number one seed UIC in the second round of the tournament Thursday afternoon, losing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh.  Later in the day, the Raiders took on Youngstown State, coming back with five runs in the seventh to win 6-4 and eliminate the Penguins.

In game one, it was a true pitcher's duel as Ashley Sharp was in the circle for the Raiders. She allowed only five hits and two earned runs in the game, and once again showed how strong she has been all season. The lone run for the Raiders came in the third inning as Karlyn Rhodeback was pinch running for Jordan Kennaw, and scored off of a throwing error by the UIC catcher, which put the Raiders up 1-0. The hits were hard to come by against the stout pitching of UIC on the day, as only four Raiders registered hits. Madison Whitaker had two hits in three at bats. Honnah Susor, Jordan Kennaw, and Lauren Deitrick also posted singles.

Game two saw WSU falling behind early, but pulling off a furious rally in the seventh inning to comeback for a victory. Down 4-1 entering the seventh inning, the Raiders scored five runs for the win. Macey Gunther paced the Raiders with a double and the only two RBI's, and kicked off that spectacular seventh inning with a sacrifice fly that drove in a run. Kaitlyn Skinner collected a two-hit game. Sharp showed her durability as she pitched in her third game in two days, and allowed four earned runs in a complete game seven-inning performance.

WSU is back in action tomorrow at 1:00 pm. They will take on the number two seed Oakland, at team they defeated twice on the road in the regular season.
