@WSU_WSoccer Earns Draw With MAC-Foe Toledo

Fairborn, OH – The Wright State women's soccer team opened the home portion of its 2018 campaign Sunday when it welcomed the Toledo Rockets to Alumni Field. The Raiders battled through two overtimes to earn a draw on a sunny, muggy Sunday afternoon.

First Half
The Raiders began the first half of play in their defensive third for a good portion of the opening 45 minutes. Wright State's defense held them in the game, however, holding the Rockets to just two shots on goal, both of which were saved by Maddie Jewell. The Raiders managed four shots on offense, with just one being on frame. Headed into the locker room, the score was tied 0-0.

Second Half
The general pace of play began to open up for both teams in the second half, as the Raiders began to push toward the Rocket offensive third of the field. After increasing the attack in the second half, Wright State finally broke through in the 64th minute when Aaliyah Patten took an excellent lead pass from Erin Graefen and made a great move around the Rocket goaltender Madison Perrin and slotted home her first of the season to give the Raiders the 1-0 lead. The Rockets would not be held down for long, however, as Hannah Scafaria took an excellent pass down the middle of the field in the 70th minute and slotted a goal in the top right corner from inside the box to tie the game at 1-1, where it would remain for the rest of regular time.

Overtime
The two teams played a possession heavy two overtime periods, with each team recording a couple quality chances during added time, but were turned away by the respective goalkeepers. The final shot tally finished 17-11 in favor of the Rockets (0-1-1), but the game would end in a 1-1 draw.

Next Up
Wright State (0-1-1) will return to action this Friday, August 24th, when they visit the University of Cincinnati for a 8:00 pm kick-off.
