Raiders go 3-0 with win over Morehead State

The Wright State volleyball team won its fifth straight match but also the Morehead State Invitational with a Saturday afternoon victory over the host Eagles 3-0.  The scores of the three-set match were 25-23, 25-18 and 25-15.  WSU posted a 9-1 record in sets this weekend.

Celia Powers led the way with 11 kills and a .391 hitting percentage along with four blocks.  Abby Barcus posted eight kills with 10 digs while Teddie Sauer hit .353 with seven kills, one service ace and three blocks.  Lainey Stephenson had 30 assists, five kills and seven digs while Taylor Gibson had six kills and three service aces.  Jenna Story collected 17 digs.  As a team, WSU hit .314.

Five straight wins is the longest streak since the Raiders won five straight in 2009.  It is the first time WSU has started 5-1 since 2015.

First Set
Wright State jumped to a 6-2 lead but the Eagles crept back to lead 17-14 before the Raiders outscored MSU 11-6 for the 25-23 win.  Barcus led the way in the first set with four kills while Gibson and Powers had three each.  Gibson had two aces as WSU hit .225.

Second Set
The Raiders took an early lead of 5-0 as MSU stormed back to tie the set at 16 each until WSU regrouped to outscore the Eagles 9-2 for the 25-18 win.  Sauer had four kills and Powers added three more as did Stephenson.  WSU hit .312 for the set. 

Third Set
This set was tight until the Raiders reeled off five straight to lead 13-6 and cruised to the title set win 25-15.  Powers finished strong with five kills.  Gibson and Sauer each had three as Sauer added two aces.  As a team, WSU hit .433.

The Raiders are back in action next weekend at the NCSU/CU Invitational as they play at North Carolina State Friday and North Carolina Central and Appalachian State at Campbell University on Saturday.
