Former Wright State women's basketball players Tay'ler Mingo and Chelsea Welch have signed contracts with European professional teams.
Mingo, who inked a deal with A3 Bakset Umea of Damligan in Sweden, has already had quite the career overseas since graduating from Wright State in 2015. In 24 Damligan games last season for Telge Basket, Mingo was her team's top scorer, averaging 24.3 ppg. Tay'ler was rewarded for her hard work last season by being named the Damligan Player of the Year, Import Player of the Year, and Guard of the Year for the league. She has also played professionally in Spain (Argon Uni Girona) since graduation.Â
In Mingo's two seasons at Wright State after transferring from Florida State in 2013, she cemented herself into the Raiders history books with the amount of league accolades she received. In the 2013-14 campaign, Mingo was named Horizon League Player of the Week twice, chosen for the Horizon League All-Tournament Team, and was eventually named to the Horizon League All-Defensive Team. During her senior season in 2014-15, Mingo earned Horizon League Player of the Week an impressive four times, once again made the All-Tournament Team, and later was honored as the Horizon League Player of the Year.Â
Welch has signed with professional team CAB Madeira (Liga Feminina) in Portugal.
The guard graduated last spring after playing two seasons for the Raiders, averaging 19.6 points and scoring 1,333 points in 68 games to rank sixth on the all-time scoring list. She was named the Horizon League Player of the Year and first team in 2018 and led WSU to a two-year 48-20 record as the Raiders appeared in back-to-back WNITs. As a graduate of Kettering (OH) Fairmont High School, Welch posted her career-high 36 points at #23 Missouri early last season.
