
Raiders Open League Play with UIC at the Nutter Center Dec. 28
League Releases 18-Game @WSU_MBB Schedule

The Horizon League announced it's men's basketball conference schedule today, including WSU's opening games on December 28 against UIC followed by IUPUI on December 30 at the Nutter Center. The Raiders' non-conference schedule was released July 24.
The Raiders will then hit the road for five straight games at Detroit Mercy, Oakland, Northern Kentucky, Youngstown State and Cleveland State before hosting Milwaukee and Green Bay to end the month of January and the first half of the conference slate. February will open at UIC and IUPUI followed by five home games against Oakland, Detroit Mercy, Northern Kentucky, Cleveland State and Youngstown State. The regular season ends with games at Green bay and Milwaukee.
UIC (Dec. 28, Nutter Center; Feb. 1, Chicago) The Flames went 20-16, 12-6 last season, advancing to the finals of the CIT where they fell to Northern Colorado. The Raiders lead the overall series 31-27 as WSU won both meetings last year, 65-61 in Dayton and 88-81 in Chicago to end the regular season. Junior Marcus Ottey returns for the Flames after averaging 13.8 points per game for the Flames last year as does Horizon League Sixth Man of the Year Godwin Boahen.
IUPUI (Dec. 30, Nutter Center; Feb. 3, Indianapolis) The Jaguars posted an 11-19, 8-10 in 2017-18, winning four of the final six regular-season games. WSU leads the overall series 10-3 but the teams split the meetings last year when the Raiders won 60-52 in Dayton but lost in Indianapolis 66-56. Senior Evan Hall leads the Jags' returnees at 7.7 points and 6.1 rebounds a game last year.
Detroit Mercy (Jan. 3, Detroit; Feb. 9, Nutter Center) The Titans will be under new head coach Mike Davis as they went 8-24, 4-14 with an early-season win over St. Louis. Wright State has won 31 of the 57 meetings against UDM, including both last year 80-73 in Detroit and 87-55 at home.
Oakland (Jan. 5, Rochester, MI; Feb. 7, Nutter Center) The Grizzlies went 19-14, 10-8 and advanced to the semi-finals of the Horizon League Tournament. The Raiders lead the overall series 11-7 against OU as WSU won both meetings last year, 86-81 in a thrilling overtime game at Oakland and 64-51 at the Nutter Center. Oakland lost most of its scoring from last year but returns junior Brailen Neely, who averaged 4.0 points per game. The Grizzlies will have senior transfer Jordan Nobles from Eastern Michigan.
Northern Kentucky (Jan. 11, Highland Heights, KY; Feb. 15, Nutter Center) The 2018 Horizon League regular-season champions posted records of 22-10, 15-3. The Norse advanced to the NIT where they fell at Louisville 66-58. NKU's lone three league losses came at the hands of WSU twice and Oakland once. NKU fell to Cleveland State in the Horizon League Tournament. Wright State leads the overall series 23-10 as WSU won at NKU 84-81 and at the Nutter Center 69-67. First Team member Drew McDonald averaged 17.0 points and 9.6 rebounds returns as does Freshman Team member sophomore Jalen Tate who averaged 5.7 points.
Youngstown State (Jan. 17, Youngstown; Feb. 23, Nutter Center) The Penguins went 8-24, 6-12 under first-year head coach Jarrod Calhoun after starting 3-0 in league play. The Raiders lead the overall series 45-12 and won both games last year, including 77-67 at home and 83-57 at YSU. Horizon League Freshman Team member Naz Bohannon averaged 7.2 points and 8.1 rebounds for the Penguins last year.
Cleveland State (Jan. 19, Cleveland; Feb. 21, Nutter Center) The Vikings finished 12-23, 6-12 but ended strong by advancing to the finals of the Horizon League Tournament where they fell to the Raiders 74-57. The Raiders have played the Vikings more than any other team, leading the overall series 37-34. CSU won the match up in Cleveland 77-74 but the Raiders bounced back at home to win 72-63. Horizon League Freshman Team member Tyree Applebee returns for second-year head coach Dennis Felton as he averaged 11.7 points a year ago.
Milwaukee (Jan. 24, Nutter Center; March 2, Milwaukee) The Panthers went 16-17, 8-10 under first-year head coach Pat Baldwin as the Raiders ended their season in the semi-finals of the Horizon League Tournament 59-53. Milwaukee holds a slight 30-29 lead over the Raiders in the overall series. Both teams won at home during the regular season, UWM winning 66-61 in Milwaukee and WSU winning 74-73 in Dayton. The Panthers lost their top four scorers from last year, returning Bryce Barnes as he averaged 6.5 points in 26 starts.
Green Bay (Jan. 26, Nutter Center; Feb. 28, Green Bay) The Phoenix finished last season at 13-20, 7-11 as the Raiders won all three meetings, including their season finale 87-72 in the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals. Wright State also won 80-67 in Green Bay and 68-64 in Dayton. GB holds a slim 31-29 overall series lead. Redshirt senior Sandy Cohen III will be the Phoenix top returning scorer as he averaged 16.1 points and 5.7 rebounds a game a year ago, including eight 20-plus scoring games.
