
@WSUWBasketball Releases Challenging Schedule

The Wright State women's basketball team will play from coast to coast plus an always difficult Horizon League schedule as they announced dates for the 2018-19 season today.
The Raiders, 23-11 and 12-6 in the Horizon League, return three starters from last year's Women's National Invitation Tournament team. Leading the way will be Horizon League Defensive Team member and 1,000-Point Club member Emily Vogelpohl. Guard Mackenzie Taylor needs just 113 points to hit 1,000 career points after averaging 11.2 points last year. The third starter coming back will be Symone Simmons, who has recorded more than 700 rebounds and 700 points.
    CSU Bakersfield (Nov. 6, Bakersfield, CA) The Roadrunners went 18-14, 10-4 in the WAC last year, advancing to the WBI first round. Jazmine Johnson returns as a senior after being named to last year's All-Defensive Team, as she collected 46 steals. Vanessa Austin earned a spot on the All-Newcomer Team. The freshman averaged almost six points and over three rebounds a game. The teams have never met before.
   UNLV (Nov. 9, Las Vegas, NV) The Rebels 19-12, 14-4 in the Mountain West. WNIT at Utah lost. Senior Brooke Johnson returns as she was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year and to the all-conference team last year, averaging over 17 points a game; Junior Nikki Wheatley also is back after being named to the Honorable Mention Team. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
   Belmont (Nov. 15, Nutter Center) The Bruins 31-4, 16-0 lost in NCAA first round versus Duke. Maggard and Roy return after earning All Ohio Valley honors a year ago. The Raiders won last year in Nashville and lead the overall series 2-0.
    Michigan State (Nov. 18, East Lansing, MI) The Spartans went 18-15, 7-9 in the Big Ten, advancing to the third round of the WNIT. Returning for MSU will be junior guard Taryn McCutcheon, redshirt-junior guard Shay Colley and junior center Jenna Allen garnered honorable mention honors. WSU dropped the only meeting with Michigan State.
    Hofstra (Nov. 23, Nashville, TN) The Pride went 11-19, 5-13 in the Colonial last year, losing the final four games of the season. Boogie Brozoski returns after leading the team in scoring at 13.4 points per game a year ago. The Raiders lost their only meeting with Hofstra.
   Stetson (Nov. 24, Nashville, TN) The Hatters went 17-15, 8-6 in the ASUN last year as they advanced to the WBI. Returning for Stetson will be junior guard McKenna Beach, who was selected second-team all-conference, and forward Michelle Pruit, who was named to the all-freshman team a year ago. The Raiders have won both previous meetings with the Hatters.
   Marist (Nov. 25, Nashville, TN) The Red Foxes finished last year at 20-14, 14-4 in the MAAC and a berth in the WNIT. Senior forward Maura Fitzpatrick was named the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Year and will return for her final season this year. The teams have never met on the court.
   Kent State (Dec. 2, Nutter Center) The Golden Flashes went 13-19 and 5-13 in the MAC last year. Kent State graduated MAC first-teamer forward Jordan Korinek. Junior Megan Carter returns after averaging 10.2 points per game last year. KSU leads the overall series 3-2.
   Drexel (Dec. 8, Riverdale, NY) The Dragons were 27-8 and 16-2 in the Colonial last year, advancing to the second round of the WNIT. Returning will be Bailey Greenberg, Second Team All-CAA and Hannah Nihill, who garnered CAA Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie Team distinctions. Denise Dillon was named the CAA Coach of the Year. The teams have never met before.
   Manhattan (Dec. 9, Riverdale, NY) The Jaspers went 13-8, 9-9 in the MAAC last winter. Kayla Grimmer was named second team MAAC while Amani Tatum was selected to the third team, and Courtney Warley earned Freshman Team honors. The Raiders fell in the only meeting with Manhattan.
   Kentucky State (Dec. 13, Nutter Center) The Thorobreds went 11-18 and 8-10 last year. The Raiders split eight early games with KSU.
   UNC Charlotte (Dec. 18, Charlotte, NC) The 49ers went 14-16, 10-6 in the C-USA last year. Returning from that team will be senior Laia Raventos, who was named to the C-USA Defensive Team and first team while Octavia Wilson earned Freshman Team honors. The teams have never met before.
   IUPUI (Dec. 28, Indianapolis; Feb. 2, Nutter Center) The Jags went 22-10, 13-5 in their first season in the Horizon League last year. Macee Williams will be back after being named the Freshman of the Year while Austin Parkinson received Coach of the Year honors. IUPUI finished second last year to Green Bay during the regular season as the Raiders knocked them out of the tournament semifinals in Detroit. WSU leads the overall series 9-2 after winning two of three meetings last year.
       UIC (Dec. 30, Chicago; Jan. 31, Nutter Center) The Flames went 8-22 and 1-17 and brought a new head coach in Tasha Pointer. Brittany Byrd returns for her senior campaign after leading UIC in scoring at 14.8 points per game. WSU leads the overall series 33-28 and has won 12 straight meetings.
   Green Bay (Jan. 3, Nutter Center; Feb. 9, Green Bay) The Phoenix won the Horizon League again last year and finished 29-4, 16-2, falling to Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Senior Jen Wellnitz is back after being named the circuit's Defensive Player of the Year as does Freshman Team member Karly Murphy. WSU trails 62-4 in the overall series and fell three times to the Phoenix last year, including the Horizon League Championship game.
   Milwaukee (Jan. 5, Nutter Center, Feb. 7, Milwaukee) The Panthers posted record 21-7, 11-7 last season, advancing to the second round of the WNIT. Milwaukee lost both Horizon League honorees and leading scorers from last year as well as their third leading scorer in Bailey Farley. The Raiders lead the series 29-28 as the teams split the two meetings a year ago.
   Northern Kentucky (Jan. 12, Highland Heights, KY; Feb. 16, Nutter Center) The Norse went 9-22 6-12 in 2017-18, falling to Green Bay in the Horizon League quarterfinals. Kaily Coffey was named to the League's Freshman Team as she averaged 9.2 points and 6.0 rebounds in her rookie season. The Norse lead the series 12-8 as WSU won both meetings last year.
      Youngstown State (Jan. 18, Youngstown; Feb. 24, Nutter Center) The Penguins posted a record 16-16, 11-7 last year with a loss in the first round of the WBI. Sophomore Chelsea Olson returns after being named to the Horizon League Freshman Team as she averaged 12.1 points and 6.7 rebounds in her initial campaign. WSU leads 34-25 overall, including wins in both meetings a year ago.
       Cleveland State (Jan. 20, Cleveland; Feb. 22, Nutter Center) The Vikings went 19-11, 11-7 a year ago, falling in the Horizon League second round to the Raiders in Detroit. CSU will be guided by first-year head coach Chris Kielsmeier. He comes to the Cleveland after 10 successful seasons at Wayne State. The Raiders narrowly trail 37-36 in the overall meetings as CSU won the regular-season games last year before WSU upended the Vikings in the tournament.
       Oakland (Jan. 25, Nutter Center; March 2, Rochester, MI) The Grizzlies posted records of 15-16, 7-11 last season, losing to IUPUI in the quarterfinals of Motor Cty Madness. Senior Taylor Jones returns after being named the Sixth Player of the Year, averaging over 11 points a game coming off the bench. The Raiders won both meetings last year and lead 12-1 overall.
           Detroit Mercy (Jan. 27, Nutter Center; Feb. 28, Detroit) The Titans went 2-28 and 2-16 last year, falling twice to the Raiders in the regular season. Sophomore Lexie Tobel is back after she was selected to the League's Freshman Team as she led all rookies in three pointers. UDM leads the overall series 28-26, but the Raiders won both meetings last year.
The 2019 Little Caesars Horizon League Basketball Championships will begin March 5 or 6 at campus sites and will culminate with the semifinal and championship games on March 11-12 at Detroit's Little Caesars Arena. The 2019 women's championship games will take place on Tuesday, March 12 at noon ET on ESPNU.
