Raiders Fall 68-64

The Wright State men's basketball team played a seesaw game that had seven lead changes and 10 ties before Northern Kentucky prevailed 68-64 at NKU's BB&T Arena Friday night.  WSU is now 8-10, 2-3 and the Norse go to 14-4, 4-1.

Three Raiders ended in double-figure scoring, led by Loudon Love with 16 points and Mark Hughes with 14.  Junior Cole Gentry pitched in 12.  Love, Hughes and Alan Vest each grabbed six rebounds.  WSU scored 42 of its 64 points in the paint while connecting on only three threes but outrebounding the Norse 34-32.

First Half
After WSU won the tip, Parker Ernsthausen laid it in followed by the Raiders challenging Horizon League preseason Player of the Year Drew McDonald immediately on the other end with a block from behind by Ernsthausen.  WSU led 6-2 at the first media timeout.  NKU came back with six points to grab the lead 8-7 by 11:58, and 16-15 at the third media break, extending the lead to 22-19 at the final timeout.  Hughes hit a three followed by a layup to give the Raiders four-point advantage at 28-24 with under two minutes remaining.  The Raiders led 30-27, going into the locker room.  Love had eight points but missed the final five minutes due to foul trouble.  Hughes led the way with nine points and five rebounds while Wampler finished with five points.

Second Half
WSU took a five point lead early in the half but NKU came back to cut it to one at 14:47 with the Norse taking the lead 40-39 out of the break.  NKU grew its lead to 47-43 by the 12-minute break.  The Raiders stayed close, down 54-51 at 6:53.  WSU used a three by Hughes to tie the game at 56.  The game tied again at 60 on a Gentry layup and, then again, at 62 by a Gentry floater with just over a minute remaining.  McDonald made it 64-62 with a layup and 67-62 by a three.  NKU posted the final, winning 68-64.

Nagy Said
"It was a good defensive first half.  We gave up way too many shots in the second half, and they had some bounce around and go in.  There's nothing we can do about that.  They just beat us off the bounce."
