Wright State men's basketball coach Scott Nagy has announced the signing of three players this afternoon to national letters-of-intent to attend Wright State University and join the Raider program beginning next fall.
The three newest Raiders are: Alex Huibregtse of Grafton, WI (Grafton High School), Brandon Noel of Chillicothe, OH (Chillicothe High School) and Andrew Welage of Greensburg, IN (Greensburg High School).
"This group of young men is a great start to our 2020 signing class," Coach Nagy said. "We know they will meet the future needs of our program. Their basketball abilities can be well documented but what's even more important to us is their personal character and their abilities in the classroom. They fit in every way to what's important to us and our university."
Huibregtse, a 6'3" guard, was a first-team all-league selection in the North Shore Conference as a junior at Grafton. He averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists for the Blackhawks in 2018-19.
"We are thrilled to have Alex in this recruiting class," said Nagy. "He brings a very competitive spirit and will add another high-level shooter to our program. We know that he is a player that spends a lot time in the gym and is continually working to develop his game for the next level."
Noel, a 6'7" forward, helped lead Chillicothe to its second consecutive Frontier Athletic Conference championship this past season as a junior. He also earned second team Division I All-District honors, first team All-District honors on the D-I and D-II District 14 Coaches Association team, and All-Ohio honorable mention in D-I after averaging 16 points per game and over eight rebounds per game
"We are very excited to add Brandon to the Wright State family," commented Nagy. "He's a bright young man who has a lot of potential. We love his versatility offensively as a big who can play both inside and on the perimeter. He also has the ability to guard multiple positions on the defensive end."
Welage, a 6'7" forward, averaged 16.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game and reached the 1,000-point milestone last season as a junior at Greensburg while leading the Pirates to a 24-2 record. Welage shot 62 percent from the field overall and 52 percent from the 3-point line as a junior.
"We really appreciate Andrew's skill set, versatility and ability to play multiple positions," Nagy said. "He has great size for a guard and has a high-level of feel for how to play the game. He fits perfectly into our style of play and is an outstanding student as well."
