Two Raiders finished with double-digit scoring nights as the Wright State women's basketball team held off a determined Cal State Bakersfield squad for a 65-60 victory on Tuesday night inside the Nutter Center in the Raiders' final home contest in the month of November.
Wright State will make the short trip down I-75 and take on the Musketeers of Xavier on Saturday before heading south and take part of the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament on November 29-30. The Raiders are set to face Kansas on November 29 at 11 a.m. and the winner of the FAU/Loyola matchup on November 30.
Senior
Michal Miller finished with a game-high 20 points on Tuesday, with redshirt sophomore
Alexis Stover tallying 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Junior
Tyler Frierson pulled down seven rebounds of her own along with contributing seven total points as well.
The Raiders finished the night shooing over 50 percent (19-for-35) from the free throw line while hitting 35 percent of their shots from the field (20-for-57). Wright State out rebounded CSU Bakersfield 52-44 while forcing 13 turnovers and holding the Roadrunners to just 20 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
CSU Bakersfield got off to a hot start, jumping out to a nine-point lead early in the first quarter, before the Raiders responded and had a three-point advantage at the end of the first 10 minutes. After another back-and-forth 10 minutes in the second quarter Wright State took a five-point lead into the locker rooms with a 32-27 lead. Those five points would prove to be the difference as both squads tallied 33 points in the second half. After CUS Bakersfield hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 60-all with 1:20 to go, the Raiders closed the night by scoring the final five points thanks to a layup from Frierson and three free throws from
Angel Baker.
