Wright State women's basketball coach Katrina Merriweather has announced the signing of four players to national letters-of-intent to attend Wright State University and join the Raider program.
The four newest Raiders are: Channing Chappell of Jacksonville, FL; Emani Jefferson of North Port, FL; Diamond Stokes of Chicago, Illinois; and KK White of Indianapolis, IN.
"I am thrilled about this class. Our goal was to sign players who are great people, take their academics seriously, and love to play basketball," Merriweather said. "This group exemplifies what it means to be a Raider. They are winners and understand what it takes to be a Champion. They are expected to make an immediate impact in our program on both ends of the floor and we anticipate them being great ambassadors in our community and for our University."
Chappell, a 5'5" guard at DME Sports Academy, is a two-time First Team All-County player (2017, 2018) and has been named to the All-First Coast team twice (Second Team, 2017; First Team 2018). A 1,000-point scorer, she helped lead her team to a regional championship and the Florida state final four in 2017, a regional title and a state runner-up finish in 2018 and was the SIAA champion in 2019.
"Channing will bring a lethal offensive artillery to our team," said Merriweather. "I haven't met a more determined, tough, and gritty player defensively. Her work ethic is contagious and I can't wait to watch her work."
Jefferson, a 5'6" guard at North Port High School, is a three-time Charlotte Sun All-Area First Team member (2017, 2018, 2019) and was the Charlotte Sun Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019. North Port High School's MVP the last two seasons, Jefferson holds five North Port single season records and six single game records while she became the school's all-time leading scorer on November 19.
"Emani is a tremendous athlete who fits perfectly into our system," commented Merriweather. "Her rare passion for defense makes her incredibly special. I look forward to watching her heat the ball up."
Stokes, a 6'3" forward at Simeon High School, was part of Simeon's city championship teams in 2017 and 2018, while also helping lead the team to the 3A state final four in 2017. Stokes and Simeon won a conference championship in 2019.
"Diamond is the type of athlete we love in our program," Merriweather said. "Her potential has no limits and she has a versatile skill set for her size. She is a great finisher and could be our next great rebounder."
White, a 6'0 guard who played at Pike High School and is now at Wabash Valley Community College, was a member of the Indiana state runner-up team at Pike in 2017 and received multiple accolades in 2018, including: Indiana All-Star Team, All-USA Indy Area Team, All-MIC Conference, All-Marion County team and was named in the Top 60 Hoosier Basketball Magazine. The No. 6-ranked junior college player in the country, she was a Top 40 All-State and a member of the GRAC champion team at Wabash Valley.
"KK's growth and maturity over the last two years has been extremely impressive," said Merriweather. "Her silky-smooth jumper, coupled with her athleticism and rebounding ability, will allow her to fit in immediately."
