Wright State saw three players score 20-plus points for the first time this season as the Raiders opened Horizon League play with a home victory over Green Bay Saturday afternoon. Loudon Love tallied his fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 22 points and 16 rebounds to lead all players in both categories. Cole Gentry finished with 21 points, including 10 in the second half, and Bill Wampler added 20 points of his own. Jaylon Hall was the fourth Raider to score double digits, finishing with 15 points. Jordan Ash (6 points), Trey Calvin and Tanner Holden (3 points each) also added to the Wright State final tally. Wright State has now won seven of its last 10 Horizon League opening games.
MILWAUKEE MATCHUP
Saturday will be the 62nd meeting all-time between Wright State and Milwaukee, with the Raiders leading the series 31-30 after sweeping both games last season. The Raiders have won seven of the last 11 matchups overall over the last five seasons. The first meeting came back on Jan. 17, 1977 in Milwaukee, a 75-66 Panther win. Scott Nagy is 5-2 against the Panthers. In Milwaukee's at Northern Kentucky to open HL play, Te'Jon Lucas led the way with 24 points and Wil Sessoms finished with 11 points.
PANTHER POINTS
Darius Roy continues to score at a clip not seen by a Panther in quite some time. He scored 25 points at Kansas and followed that with 24 more points against Eastern Illinois Dec. 14 and 25 against Wisconsin on Dec. 21. The team leader each contest, he became the first Milwaukee player since Ricky Franklin in January of 2010 to score 20-plus points in three games in a row.
The balance of the Milwaukee offense has been on display so far this season, with the team finishing with at least four players in double-figures in five of 13 games – with the list getting to five with 10-plus against both North Dakota Nov. 19 and Wisconsin Lutheran Nov. 12.
It has been a solid start to the season for the Panther offense, which came into play against Northern Kentucky fourth in the Horizon League with its 72.7 ppg scoring average. The two games against Western Michigan Nov. 9 and Wisconsin Lutheran Nov. 12 were actually unprecedented, seeing Milwaukee top 100 points in back-to-back games for the first time in the NCAA Division I era (since 1990-91).
SHARING THE SCORING
The Horizon League opener against Green Bay on Dec. 28 marked the sixth time this season that the Raiders have had four players score in double figures in the same game. The win was the first time in 2019-20 that Wright State had three different players (Loudon Love, Cole Gentry, Bill Wampler) score 20-plus points. In the previous five instances, the Raiders had one game with two scoring 20+ points (Southern, Dec. 12) and two games with a single 20+ point scorer (Central State, Nov. 5 & Tennessee Tech, Nov. 12).
