Raiders to Honor Seniors on Sunday
In their final regular season home game of the year, the Wright State women's basketball team will play hosts to the Youngstown State Penguins on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders will be looking for redemption against the Penguins after Youngstown State knocked them off at home early in the conference slate by a score of 68-83. In their first meeting of the season, Angel Baker poured in 27 points, but it was not enough to overcome a Penguins team that had two players combine for 44 points in Sarah Cash and Alison Smolinski.
After the game, the Raiders will honor its seniors: Imani Partlow, Symone Simmons, Mackenzie Taylor and Emily Vogelpohl.
Wright State
The Raiders (21-6, 13-2) enter the game fresh off of a 78-52 drudging of the Cleveland State Vikings on Friday night. Tyler Frierson had a career game with 16 points and 14 rebound, both stats representing her second-highest career totals. Symone Simmons added 14 points and continued her conference-leading rebounding with 14 scoops. Michal Miller tallied 10 points in the effort against the Vikings while also adding a game-high six assists.
On the season, Michal Miller and Mackenzie Taylor are tied in scoring with 12.0 points each game. Symone Simmons leads the team in rebounds with 9.3 each outing, Simmons is also leading the Horizon League in rebounding. Emily Vogelpohl leads the Raiders in assists (82), steals (49), and minutes per game (30.3).
Youngstown State
The Penguins (20-7, 12-4) are entering the Nutter Center coming off of 62-65 loss to the Northern Kentucky Norse on Friday night. In the waning seconds of the game, Molly Glick hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to beat the Penguins. In the game, Sarah Cash led in scoring with 25 points and rebounding with seven.
On the season, the Penguins have four players averaging in double-digits. Mary Dunn (13.1), Sarah Cash (13.0), Alison Smolinski (12.9) and Chelsea Olson (10.5) are all represented in the Top-16 scorers in the Horizon League this season. Chelsea Olson leads Youngstown State in rebounds with an average of 7.3, good for sixth in the conference.
