Simmons Awarded Horizon League Player of the Week

Symone Simmons was honored by the Horizon League for her impressive performance this weekend at home. The senior posted back-to-back double-doubles this week in the Raider victories over Cleveland State and Youngstown State. Simmons posted 14 points and 14 rebounds in Friday's victory over the Vikings and followed that performance up by posting a career-high 21 rebounds along with 10 points on Sunday.
Coach Katrina Merriweather commented, "That's just Symone, she is going to show up and give everything she has. I think that people make a concentrated effort to keep her off the boards, but with her relentlessness, she can't be stopped."
Earlier this season, she added "Even when she doesn't get the rebound, her presence allows her teammates to get them as the other team is focused on her. There's no way we would be where we are right now without her. She has the ability to get to the rim, make the mid-range jumper, and knock down the three. You have to respect every part of her game, or she will hurt you."
This season, Simmons is shooting a career best from the field and is averaging nearly 10 rebounds per game, also a career high.
The all-time school record holder in rebounds is now just 10 points away from 1,000 career points and eight rebounds away from 1,000 career rebounds, and will become the first Wright State basketball player (men's or women's) to record 1,000 points and rebounds. She will look to reach those marks this weekend as the first-place Raiders wrap up the regular season against Detroit Mercy and Oakland.
