@WSU_SB Falls Short against Detroit Mercy

Wright State (12-13) couldn't complete the comeback against Detroit Mercy on Friday, dropping the Horizon League opener to the Titans. The Raiders tallied eight hits in the game but could only score three runs. The Titans and Raiders return to WSU Softball Field in a Saturday doubleheader to close out the series.

1st Inning
Detroit Mercy took advantage of the wind blowing steadily out to right with a lead-off triple over the head of Raider rightfielder Jordyn Poulson. A wild pitch, walk, and single allowed the Titans to claim a 2-0 lead after the top of the 1st against starter Makenna Durieux. The right hander recorded a strikeout to end the frame. On offense, the Raiders quickly loaded the bases with Rebekah Lenos, Meredith Keel, and Brianna Hutchinson aboard with no outs. Titan starter Ashley Mauser battled back and recorded two big strikeouts, but a passed ball and a 2-RBI single for Madison Hartman gave the Raiders a 3-2 lead after one.

5th Inning
Durieux worked around baserunners in the second and third to record back-to-back scoreless innings. The Titans scored the tying run in the fourth off of Maddux Hughes. Hughes got out of a bases loaded jam with two key outs. In the fifth, the Titans added another run on a sharply hit ball that got the best of Lauren Deitrick at second.

7th Inning
Ashley Mauser frustrated the Raider bats with 10 strikeouts and kept Detroit Mercy up 4-3 heading into the seventh. Still trailing by that score in the bottom of the seventh, the Raiders started a comeback attempt with a Rebekah Lenos single. Detroit Mercy turned to Liz Murphy in the circle who gave up a single to Brianna Hutchinson. Lenos, the tying run, advanced to third on a Madison Nunez flyout. With two outs, the Titans got Lauren Deitrick to roll over into a groundout at second to escape with the road win.
